Tingo María Peru

Tingo María is the capital of Leoncio Prado Province in the Huánuco Region of central Peru. The city lies at the confluence of two important rivers, the Monzón and the Huallaga, a major tributary of the Marañón River. Near the city is Tingo María National Park, which protects the local rainforest and a limestone mountain range shaped like a sleeping woman. This formation is known as La Bella Durmiente (the Sleeping Beauty) or Pumarinri, and a local legend explains its shape. The main attraction of the park is a cave called Cueva de las Lechuzas (Cave of the Owls). The current mayor is Juan Picón Quedo, a member of a prominent local business family. A key local industry focused on cacao is the Cooperativa Agroindustrial Naranjillo, which exports its products to international markets.
